The Awakening by Bevan McGuiness

What is happening in Australia? They are producing some brilliant new young writers and McGuiness is certainly one.

This book is described as the first volume in a trilogy - The Triumverate. This
reader is champing at the bit waiting for the next two books to happen. Why?
Because McGuiness can write!

The reader is drawn into a world of so many disparate societies, which are
integrated into a believable and coherent whole. The characters are very well
drawn, the plot is revealed slowly and intriguingly and there is enough "blood and
guts" action to satisfy anyone, but not too much to deter the faint hearted.

It is always interesting to read a male author's "take" on a female protagonist -
[so few of them can get it right] and it is always exciting and delightful when it
works. McGuiness has got it spot on. Give that man a beer.

Thoroughly recommended for any fantasy addict or anyone who would like to try a
new genre.
