Fashioning kimono: dress and modernity in early twentieth century Japan - Annie van Assche looks at Jeffrey Montgomery’s exceptional collection.
It is fascinating in that it spans the time from where kimono were still worn everyday to the 1940’s and 50’s when Western dress style replaced them as the dress of choice. Van Assche’s essay Interweavings: Kimono past and present provides us with a review of the history of the kimono so giving context to the items in the collection.
