Provenance by Jane Messer

Provenance by Jane Messer is a novel of Rafaela, growing up in an Italian family in 1950s Queensland.

She longs to move to Melbourne and start her own life. But when the train on which she travels to Melbourne is halted by floodwaters she meets a beautiful young sikh scientist named Chanchal. While both their families search for them Rafi and Chanchal move ahead with their life together living in isolation and bliss on a farm unaware that their story is spreading. Set in the stifling heat of Queensland canefields, Provenance is an accomplished and original love story that explores colour and cultural differences.
