The wonder house by Justine Hardy

A subtle, sensitive story - THE book to read about Kashmir

Justine Hardy makes her fiction debut with a subtle and sensitive book,
The Wonder House. Three women live on The Wonder House, a boat moored on
Nagin Lake. Suriya is mute and carries a terrible secret. Her daughter,
Lila wants only to escape the past and live a different life. But
together, they tend to Gracie, a defiant Yorkshirewoman living out her
widowhood by the lake. Violence is brought back into the Valley with a
military coup over the border. When Gracie invites a journalist to stay
on at the Wonder House, the fragile peace aboard the boat is threatened.
This book takes you behind the veil, under the burqua and even into the
training camps where young boys are turned into killers, without ever
losing sight of the humanity of the finally drawn, utterly believable
characters.
This book has been described as "THE book to read about
Kashmir".
