Caught mapping

The life and times of new Zealand's early surveyors

When travelling around New Zealand in the comfort of our cars on the highways and roads it never crosses our mind the hard work that made it all possible. Caught mapping by Janet Holm tells the stories of the surveyors who charted and mapped our country.  It was of course a very different land then, full of uncharted territory. These men walked the length and breadth of New Zealand deciding the best routes for roads and railways and sites for towns.  It would have been a hard life but full of adventure as they were faced with extreme weather, dense bush and of course none of the comforts and technology that are available today.  This book is fascinating reading full of history on our land and the men that shaped it to what we know today.
