Life of Evil Knievel by Stuart Barker
Author Stuart Barker reveals the real man behind great stunt master, Evil Knievel.
At one stage he had so much money he had a private vault built in his home town with an engraving on it of him pulling a wheelie on his Harley Davidson. But his fortune came with a price tag of shattered and splintered bones. By the end of his career he had spent a total of 36 months in hospital having broken almost every bone in his body at least once.
Knievel had been jumping since he was eight, but his big break came when he performed his legendary leap over the fountains outside Caesar's Palace Hotel in Las Vegas in 1967. His monumental crash was captured on camera in full, gory detail and news and sports programs played the scene almost continuously for several weeks after. Knievel woke from a 29-day coma to find he was now famous.
