Kathy's Story by Kathy O'Beirne

Kathy's Story is the story of how Kathy from an early age suffered terrible abuse.

Kathy's StoryAs a result, at the age of eight, she was diagnosed as a troubled child and removed from the family home. She was placed in a reformatory school run by nuns. It was at this school that a visiting priest raped her and when she asked for help she was placed in a psychiatric hospital where the abuse continued. At the age of twelve Kathy was sent to a Magdalen laundry. In here, locked away from the world, the girls were punished and sexually abused. Kathy endured years of this abuse and just before her fourteenth birthday gave birth to a daughter. Her story is sad but is also one of courage and strength. By telling her story Kathy hopes to help other survivors of institutional abuse and fight for justice for the victims.
