August Newsletter FROM OUR CHAIRPERSON
Hi Friends and Volunteers
Winter
lingers in Levin so it has been a good chance to make full use of the
Library services. There are lots of new books in circulation as well as
periodicals. The CD collection is growing apace with some very good
films and documentaries on the shelves.
Our recent book sales in
the Mall were a great success. The Autumn book sale (April) raised
$2439 and the recent Winter sale raised $3612 – totalling $6051. Thank
you for your generous support, and special thanks to those Friends and
Volunteers who worked so hard manning the stall and shifting
books. And to Lorraine and Ian for their usual fine organizing
effort.
— The September fund-raiser for the new Levin
Library will be a murder mystery. We have changed the venue to the
Memorial Hall this year, as it has much more space as well as a stage
for the actors. This is a chance to see some of the library staff in a
whole new light! Do come along for an evening of fun, and as usual
delicious desserts. Book at the library NOW! Dianne Edyvane
ROBIN BRASSINGTON died peacefully at home on August 15. He will be remembered by many of the Friends.
“Robin’s
quiet patience has been an inspiration”. As requested by Robin a
quiet graveside service at Bulls, has been held. Messages may be
left in the tribute book at www.tributes.co.nz

Mid-morning Murder- and other handy hints for the harassed housewife. THE PLAY AT THE MEMORIAL HALL
Saturday 20 September Tickets $20 – book at the Library NOW!
The
play is set in 1933, a country house murder with a stock cast of
characters. The stage performance is in the manner of a radio drama in
the style of 1953, with radio commercials of the period. Many of these
the audience will remember, both the products and jingles. A real
stroll down memory lane.
The cast are rehearsing now: Rosalie,
Beth, Deborah and Barbara, (from the library) are the four females.
Dave Key, Alan Smith, Antonin Moore and Chris Lloyd make up the male
cast. Fred will be the on-stage radio presenter.
You will ‘WATCH’ the sound effects being made!
As usual the audience will have a chance to question the characters before the final act.
Bring your own team of detectives or join one of ours.
There will be Bar sales (juice, wine, beer, low alcohol beer) and a raffle as well.
Desserts and tea/coffee included in ticket price.
This is going to be a very special night out so
